PETALING JAYA, 2 May: The Pakatan Rakyat (PR) candidate for the Petaling Jaya Selatan Parliament, Hee Loy Sian is determined to continue protests against toll collection at the Petaling Jaya Selatan 2 (PJS2) Toll Plaza here.

According to Loy Sian, the toll plaza which is located near Taman Medan makes it difficult for residents to carry out daily business such as sending children to school, visit relatives and so on, even though they are just nearby.

However, according to Loy Sian, the mission is more easily implemented if PR wins at the federal level because elimination of tolls is a national policy championed by PR in its manifesto.

“Originally, this was an old road but it was only upgraded to become a highway in 2004 and then users were charged a toll of RM1.60.

“This is not fair to all road users,” said Loy Sian when met by TVSelangor.

The PJS2 toll rate previously imposed was RM1.60, however it was reduced to RM1.00 after the residents held a demonstration to protest against the existence of the toll plaza here.

In addition to leading the protest demonstration, Loy Sian also brought the issue to the House of Representatives.

Touching on other issues, Loy Sian who is the incumbent for the Petaling Jaya Selatan Parliamentary seat said that support from Malays in PJS currently shows an incredible increase.

“The support in 2008 in Malay areas was only at 40 percent, but now support for PR has increased to more than 60 percent while voters from the Chinese and Indian communities is the same as elsewhere,” he added.

In 2008, Loy Sian from PKR defeated the incumbent at the time for the seat, Datuk Donald Lim Siang from BN with a majority of 5,706 votes.
