MAPIM Efforts To Help The People Of Gaza Praised By The Selangor Government

SHAH ALAM, 25 JAN: The commitment shown by the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (MAPIM) in helping the people of Gaza, Palestine, has commended the praise of the Selangor Government after the NGO managed to successfully build several mosques in the region.

Until now, Mapim has managed to successfully channelled funds from the people of Malaysia to build the Beit Hanoun Mosque, the Umar Abdul Aziz Mosque and the Al-Hikma Mosque, and they have provided other humanitarian assistance for the people in Gaza.

The Selangor Mapim Coordinator, Abdul Aziz Abu Bakar said that the latest Mapim project in Gaza is to build a new hospital that costs RM100 million.

Mapim is also planning projects to assist in repairing houses of Gaza residents that were heavily damaged by Israeli troops with the cost of RM3,000 per house.

He said that as many as 110,000 families in Gaza live below the poverty level and 70 percent of the population do not have jobs.

“It does not mean that they are lazy, in fact they are very diligent because the project to complete a number of mosques in Gaza only took a few months because of the people’s diligence,” he said.

Abdul Aziz said this when giving a briefing on Mapim’s missions to help the people of Gaza during a reception between representatives of Mapim and the Chief Minister of Selangor, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim at the Chief Minister’s official residence this afternoon.

Also present were Selangor Exco members and Mapim’s representative in Gaza, Mohammad Y Hasna and the Hamas Women Chief, who is also the wife of As-Syahid Dr Abdul Aziz Rantisi, Ummu Muhammad Rasha A.A Al Rantisi.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Y. Hasna said that the people in Gaza are in dire need of support and assistance in various forms by the people of Malaysia in efforts to liberate Palestine.

“We are very grateful and we appreciate contributions made by the people of Malaysia and Mapim, as one of the associations that has always cares about the people in Palestine,” he said.

In the meantime, Abdul Khalid praised the attitude and spirit shown by Mapim for constantly looking for funds to help restore Gaza and for having successfully built various infrastructure for the people there.

“The State Government is always cooperating to help humanitarian missions for the people of Gaza and it is the duty of us all to extend assistance,” he said.
