MARRIS RM400 million should be used as best possible

SHAH ALAM, 16 Oct: The state government should use all of the State Road Maintenance Trust Fund Group and the Malaysian Road Records Information System (MARRIS) provisions as best possible to upgrade and repair the roads in the state.

The Member of Parliament for Shah Alam, Khalid Samad, said that this is to ensure that local authorities can carry out road repairs from time to time.

“The state government needs to channel the provisions to local authorities. Do not reduce it, and local authorities need to spend it appropriately, efficiently and with trust.

“If the local authority budget is RM80 million, RM80 million needs to be handed over so that local authorities can take care of the roads in the areas under their administration” said Khalid when contacted by Selangor Kini.

When asked about the conditions of the roads in Shah Alam at this time, Khalid said that in general, there have been changes as there have been more repair works being conducted.

“Even though I am busy in Parliament now, I have indeed seen a lot and it has been repaired.

“If there are public complaints made through my office and I have channelled it to the Council Members and Assemblymen to identify the location of the roads involved. Priority is given to badly dilapidated roads first,” he said.

Prior to that, the Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the government will use all MARRIS provisions worth RM400 million to repair the roads in the state.

Mohamed Azmin explained that provision will be divided into 12 local authorities to pay for the cost of road repairs for the comfort and safety of motorists.
