Mat Kilau, Tok Gagah are not Umno, are they ‘bangsat’ too?

SHAH ALAM, 24 Aug: A Prime Minister should not call Malays ‘bangsat’ merely because they refuse to support Umno, said the Sungai Petani MP, Datuk Johari Abdul.

He said that Malays have been around for a long time, meanwhile Umno is a new party that was formed after taking over the country.

“If he (Datuk Seri Najib Razak) says that Malays are ‘bangsat’, that would mean that his father and grandfather are the most ‘bangsat’ because at that time Umno did not yet exist.

“Malay warriors such as Mat Kilau, Tok Gagah are not people of Umno, so are they too ‘bangsat’?

“Malays in Singapore, Thailand, Sri Langka and other countries, they do not have Umno, are they ‘bangsat’ too?” he told Selangor Kini.

Johari said that Najib’s action of equating Malays with Umno cannot be applied because the race itself has become backward under the administration of the party.

Therefore, he said that it would be better is Malays become true Muslims by practicing religion, being free of corruption and do not cheat people.

“It is more important because when we die, we will not be asked our Umno membership number or what party we supported.

“Do not politicise such issues because regardless of race, we are Malaysians, there is no need to issue statements that lower Malays,” he said.

Earlier, Najib, when speaking at the Umno delegates meeting in Perlis, said that Muslim Malays will be the most ‘bangsat’ if Umno no longer rules the country.

The Umno President said that he chose the word ‘bangsat’ because there are no other words that can describe the situation of Malays who will be pressured if Umno loses power.
