MH006 Generator Not Working, MH144 Struck a Flock of Ducks

SHAH ALAM, 24 Mar: Today, Malaysia Airlines (MAS) confirmed that the MH006 aircraft belonging to the airlines, from Kuala Lumpur to Incheon, Seoul, last night, was diverted to Hong Kong as the aircraft generator was inoperative.

In a statement, the MAS Media Public Relations Manager, Kharunnisak Dzun Nurin, said that the Airbus A330-300 safely landed in Hong Kong.

Electrical power continued to be supplied by the auxiliary power unit and the aircraft was then diverted to Hong Kong for rectification and landed uneventfully,” he said.

MH066 departed from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 11.37pm and was scheduled to arrive at the Incheon International Airport at 6.50am local time (5.50am Malaysian time).

He said that all 271 passengers of the aircraft have been transferred to other flights.

“The MH067 return flight from Incheon to Kuala Lumpur was cancelled and passengers were transferred to other flights, in addition to the following flights from MAS to Kuala Lumpur,” he said today.

Yesterday, a MAS aircraft carrying 180 passengers and crew survived potential disaster when a flock of ducks struck the landing lights and broke it when it landed at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on 21 March.

The Nepal news portal, kantipuronline.com, on 22 March, quoted airport authorities saying that the incident at 10.45pm caused the end of Runway 02 to be filled by glass fragments.

There were no reports of injuries sustained by passengers on the MH144 from Kuala Lumpur to Kathmandu.

The airline’s cockpit crew, however, did not immediately inform the Air Traffic Controller (ATC) about the incident.

The flight captain later confirmed the “suspected bird-hit”, but only after a Jet Airways crew reported it to the airport authority, said the report.

It is believed that action may be taken against the MAS pilots involved for failing to report the incident and MAS cancelled its flight to Kuala Lumpur scheduled for 11pm the same day.

All passengers who booked the flight will be housed at the Soaltee Hotel, Annaprna and Hyatt Regency, while the aircraft departed for Kuala Lumpur after being repaired at 3.30pm on 22 March.
