SHAH ALAM, 21 Apr: A Bangalore-bound Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight, MH192 was forced to turn back to KL International Airport (KLIA) early this morning after it was discovered that a tyre had burst during takeoff at Sepang.
MAS Media Relations Strategic Communication manager, Khairunnisak Dzun Nurin said the captain was alerted by the Kuala Lumpur Air Traffic Control that tyre debris were found on the runway and immediately contacted Malaysia Airlines Operations Control Centre (OCC) at 10.25 pm.
“As safety is of utmost priority to Malaysia Airlines, the aircraft was required to turn back to KLIA.
The Airport Fire Rescue Services (AFRS) were deployed as soon as the pilot was instructed to turn back to KLIA by OCC.
Khairunnisak said the passengers would be accommodated at nearby hotels while the flight retimed to depart at 3.30 pm on April 21 (today) and reach Bangalore, India at 5 pm the same day.
The aircraft landed safely at 1.56 am and all 159 passengers and seven crew on board have disembarked.
Meanwhile, Capt Nor Adam Azmi was piloting the aircraft, with Prakash Kumar as co-pilot when they detected a right landing gear malfunction after leaving KLIA for Bangalore at 10.09 pm yesterday.
