MPK actively cleaning 53 locations to avoid flooding, preparations updated

SHAH ALAM, 17 Jan: The Klang Municipal Council (MPK) appointed 53 companies to clean up ditches at 53 locations in the Klang district.

The Corporate and Community Department Director, Zaireezal Ahmad Zainudin, said that the move is being done in preparation to face floods in Klang.

“The cleaning involves excavating and removing all garbage in ditches and disposing them at landfills.

“Work started on November 17, 2014,” he said when contacted by Selangor Kini.

In addition, the Enforcement Department is constantly monitoring areas that often face floods through 76 Close Circuit Camera (CCTV) locations by the MPK CCTV Unit.

This action is followed by the channelling of information through the ‘Whatsapp’ location for the MPK and Klang district level, which comprises of officials from the relevant departments.

According to him, MPK has established a Quick Response Team (PANTAS Squad) which will deliver preliminary reports on the disaster situation to other security teams and receive support from MPK internal departments by channelling emergency aid and logistics.

This team is always ready within 24 hours to face flood disasters and will act as a preliminary support team to provide emergency aid.

“MPK is always ready to create temporary movement posts in areas affected by flood.

“The existence of these movement posts aims to help victims in terms of safety and logistics.

“In addition, victims can make any complaints regarding damage to homes, furniture and other related matters and complaints received will be coordinated and channelled to the relevant authorities immediately for further action,” he said.

He explained that in the event of flooding, all MPK multipurpose halls will be made into flood evacuation centres.

To date, MPK has 24 halls that can be made into evacuation centres and controlled by security personnel to provide comfort to flood victims.
