Muhyiddin desperate, not PAS

SHAH ALAM, 28 May: The PAS Information Chief, Datuk Mahfuz Omar, said that the party was not desperate, as said by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said that it is Muhyiddin who is desperate to gain support from Malay voters when he saw PAS giving full support to the DAP candidate representing Pakatan Rakyat (PR), Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, for the Teluk Intan parliamentary by-election.

“PAS has no reason to be desperate. It is not our party that is contesting. If we are contesting, then we can be considered desperate,” he said, quoted from Harakah Daily.

In a statement, Muhyiddin said that PAS is supporting the DAP candidate’s campaign because of political pressure, even though the candidate is clearly against hudud law.

“We support DAP in certain principles such as fighting against corruption, defending the rights of the people and combating abuse of power.

“Like what the PAS President said, we are supporting on the basis of PR struggles. We are working together because there are many similarities in stand between PAS and DAP,” he explained.

The Member of Parliament for Pokok Sena is also of the opinion that Muhyiddin is confused by thinking that PAS is contesting in Teluk Intan.

“Perhaps Muhyiddin’s memory is clouded by thinking PAS is contesting because the candidate is Malay,” he said.
