Ng Suee Lim appointed the acting PAC Chairman

SHAH ALAM, 9 Apr: The Selangor State Assembly (DNS) today appointed the Sekinchan Assemblyman, Ng Suee Lim, as the Acting Chairman of the state Public Accounts Committee (PAC) after the position was vacant for four months.

The DNS Speaker, Hannah Yeoh, said that the decision was made after Barisan Nasional (BN) did not appoint a leader of the opposition to fill the seat.

She said that with the power as Speaker, she appointed Suee Lim for the position after Datuk Shamsuddin Lias (BN-Sungai Burong) resigned as the leader of the opposition on December 8 last year.

“I wrote to the Selangor BN twice to submit names for the new leader of the opposition, but received no response.

“I also offered Datuk Amiruddin Setro (BN-Jeram), who sits in the PAC committee, to lead it but received no response,” she said during a press conference at the DNS lobby today.

Hannah said that they have to ensure that the PAC functions like other committees and following Suee Lim’s appointment, the PAC will hold its first meeting on April 15.

During the DNS session last year, the Assembly passed a motion that the position of the PAC Chairman must be held by the leader of the opposition.

Meanwhile, Suee Lim explained that he has received the letter of appointment from Hannah and will carry out the responsibilities entrusted to him.

“The PAC has not conducted a meeting in over three months and the Speaker made the decision to appoint me for the position.

“The first meeting will be held after the reshuffling with the PAC committee being comprised of new faces such as the Kajang Assemblyman (Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail), Meru (Dr Abdul Rani Osman), Balakong (Ng Tien Chee), Batu Tiga (Rodziah Ismail), Sungai Burong (Shamsuddin), Jeram (Amiruddin) and myself.

“I am disappointed by BN for not wanting to accept the offer to lead the PAC even though it has been approved by the DNS,” he said.
