Opah Wahidah & husband continue to fight to defend Kg Chubadak

KUALA LUMPUR, 6 Nov: The elderly couple in Kampung Chubadak will continue to endure and fight for their right to obtain justice and appropriate compensation from developers.

“Berjuang terus berjuang” (Continue to fight the fight),” Wahidah Mat Salleh, 72, shouted during the “Opah Wahidah Enters University” programme at the University of Malaya, last night.

Wahidah and her husband, Abdul Halim Hamid, 76, received public attention when their home in the village was demolished by the developer in late October.

The incident was said to be the second after the first time it was done by the authorities and the developer in June.

Despite being old, Wahidah and Halim strengthened themselves to attend the programme after receiving support from the University of Malaya Muslim Students Society and several other student organisations regarding the issue.

The couple appreciates the support of students and everyone, and hopes that the issue will be resolved well and immediately.

“I am worried and I do not like being fierce like this. I am scared,” she briefly said.

Also present were her two granddaughters, Afiqah Azmi, 13, and Natasha Norman, 13.

Now, the elderly couple who have been living in the village for over 45 years are only taking shelter under a tent built by neighbours.
