Place police & patrol at popular street racing locations

SHAH ALAM, 5 May: The government should take proactive measures by placing traffic police and patrol teams along main roads and highways to monitor drivers who illegally race and invite the risk of accident.

The Batu Member of Parliament, Tian Chua, said that increasing punishment against offenders is not enough and the police should not be burdened with political tasks.

“I see it as a dense issue and it has major implications. It needs to be addressed in various ways, including social problems. The illegal racing goes on continuously, whether on highways or ordinary roads.

“The police should not be burdened with political tasks, instead they should improve monitoring at highways and popular racing locations.

“Enforcement should take immediate action if there are illegal racing activities,” he said when asked to comment on the accident at the Duke Highway on May 2.

He also advised all parties to take responsibility by advising those closest such as family members and friends to avoid activities that endanger civilians.

He said that the government should also organise more safe motoring activities.

Tian Chua also expressed his condolences to the families of the victims as they are voters in his area.

He also informed that he will visit and present donations to the families of the victims after his duties at the Permatang Pauh by-election is completed.

In the incident, three family members died at the scene after their Pajero collided with two Myvis before overturning.
