Progressively tackle dengue, emulate DBKL

SUBANG JAYA, 2 Sept: The state government and the Selangor Health Department have been urged to emulate the proactive and progressive measures by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) in tackling dengue cases.

The Selangor State Assembly (DNS) Speaker, Hannah Yeoh, said that the measures used by DBKL with the cooperation of the Malaysian Environmental Health Association is clearly more effective and positive.

She said that the strategic mapping of dengue cases conducted by DBKL is clearly able to reduce the rate of dengue cases and the number of hotspots.

“They implemented mapping, reviewed all positive cases reported and looked for the common trend. For example, they looked into open spaces through the victims and cleaned it if dengue attacked the workers.

“Similarly, if students have dengue, all open spaces that the student went through will be cleared. It is clearly effective, faster and more effective, and in fact the method is also implemented in Ipoh and Seri Iskandar,” she said.

Earlier, the Subang Jaya Assemblyman also officiated the outdoor gym at the USJ 2/4S playground this morning.

Hannah said that information about dengue cases must also be updated quickly to alert the authorities to take immediate action.

“The date can be placed onto a dedicated website so that everyone can access the information quickly. If it is slow and you have to wait up to two weeks, I believe that dengue would have spread by the time action can be taken,” she said.
