Rajiv: Restoring the ISA is an Outdated Way of Thinking

SHAH ALAM, 13 Jan: The statement by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, who supports to continue using the Internal Security Act (ISA) for arrests, clearly shows that his managerial mind-set is outdated and autocratic in nature.

The Assemblyman for Bukit Gasing, Rajib Rishyakaran, said that the good reputation of the country will be affected with the existence of draconian Acts like the ISA, which is correlated with a country that is autocratic and is in violation of fundamental human rights.

He said this as a comment after the Inspector General of Police (IGP) expressed his support to restore the ISA to improve efficiency in capturing suspects.

“With laws like the ISA, the Umno-BN regime will often use it to arrest political opponents like what happened in the Lalang Operation in 1987,” Rajiv said in his press statement.

He said that the statement by the IGP, seeking the return of the ISA to improve the efficiency of arrests, is short-term view that does not take into consideration the cost which will be shouldered by the people.

“The ISA should be in our nation’s history (past) forever so that the people’s rights will not be taken by any party,” said Rajiv.
