RM1.044 billion in state revenue returned to the people

SHAH ALAM, 26 May: The Selangor Government registered RM1.044 billion in state revenue returned to the people through various schemes under the Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor (MES) programme in the last term.

The Executive Councillor for Welfare, Rodziah Ismail, said that the state government expects the amount to increase this term due to high awareness among the public to grab opportunities offered by the State Government.

“In the first term, our focus was to improve the people’s economy through MES policies. In this second term, we continued existing programmes and we also added value. We are reviewing additional services that can be provided.

“The Selangor Government understands that the needs of the people are always dynamic and progressive. So we increased the expenses. In the past, we had the Selangor Micro-Credit Scheme (SkimSel), which we have retained, but now, it is more towards additional assistance to small businesses to own assets like vehicles to increase their income,” she said.

Rodziah said this when she was met by Selangor Kini after attending the closing ceremony of the Child Development Intensive Course at Intekma Resort yesterday.

She added that MES programme statistics also show an increase in the people’s awareness to improve their quality of life through programmes that are available.

MES statistics, as of 31 December 2013, shows that the Selangor Government has spent RM1,044,511,342.86 in state revenue to be enjoyed by the people of the state, with nearly 1.6 million families receiving benefits.

The state revenue is shared through 17 schemes under the MES programme, such as the Youth Marriage Incentive, the People Care Assistance, the Urban Poor Micro-Credit Scheme (Mimbar), the Selangor Micro-Credit Scheme (SkimSel), the Selangor Children’s Heritage Fund (Tawas), the University Entry Gift, the Senior Citizens Scheme (SMUE), the Free Water Scheme and so on.
