BANGI, SEP 22: A RM500 fine will be imposed in accordance to the Insect Act for hotspots found to be breeding Aedes, said Health, Welfare, Women and Family Development Exco Dr Daroyah Alwi.

She said the ruling was made in accordance to the Destruction of Insect and Disease Carriers Act 1975 in which offenders are liable to a fine for each offense.

“When we find the existence of Aedes breeding spots and its larvae habitat we shall fine the company or the residents.

“For example, a RM500 fine shall be imposed for every water puddle found to be the source,” she said.

She was speaking yesterday during the Terjah Denggi dan Zika programme at the Selangor Islamic University College (KUIS).

Earlier, Dr Daroyah together with Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) and State Health Department conducted a surprise visit at the Seksyen 3, Bangi housing construction site.

At the same time, a total of three hotspot locations were identified, requiring immediate cleansing by the contractor’s company.

The State Health Department also took samples of stagnant water in the construction area to find out its quality level.

So far Selangor has recorded 46 deaths caused by dengue since last January.
