Shah Alam, September 3rd – BN government’s recent action in raising fuel prices will only serve to make life difficult for the people as it triggers a chain reaction of price hikes of daily necessities.

Director of Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (FOMCA), Mohd Yusof Abdul Rahman said a similar situation occurred in 2010 when the government raised fuel prices.

“Whenever a price increase happens, it triggers a chain of price escalation. No one can get away from price hike effects. Every class experiences it,” he told TV Selangor.

Even though they promised that no will be no increase in petrol prices after GE13, the BN government had raised the price of RON95 and diesel by 20 sen to RM2.10 and RM2.00 per liter respectively effective from today.

Mohd Yusof believed that the low-income group will experience more adverse effects of significant high living costs than anyone else.

“The increase means that disposable income is decreasing. This will certainly lead to higher cost of living,” he lamented.

To curb the rising prices of other goods, he said, the government should ensure that no one monopolises any other price increase of other goods indiscriminately.
