Royal Selangor Theatre needs updating

SHAH ALAM, 3 Feb: The State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN) will present a work paper to the Selangor government to determine the direction of the Royal Selangor Theatre so that its usage can be optimised.

The Exco for Malay Customs, Datuk Ahmad Yunus Hairi, said that there are many things that need to be completed and the work paper should refer to the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and the Selangor cultural agency.

“The Royal Theatre is a great asset, but its usage has not been optimised.

“A lot of things need to be resolved. I have asked UPEN to prepare a work paper for the Exco referring to MBSA, the Malay Customs and Selangor State Heritage Council (Padat) and the Cultural Council for the purpose of planning for the development of the theatre,” he said to Selangor Kini after a visit to the Royal Theatre.

Also published in the Exco paper is the agency responsible for managing the theatre, activities and rental costs.

The Shah Alam Royal Theatre was fully completed on August 6, 2008, at a construction cost of RM43 million and it received the Certificate of Fitness (CF) for occupancy on October 21, 2008.

However, the theatre that was used for the Maharaja Lawak Mega (Mega Comedy King) programme is seen as being desolate without artistic activities.
