SHAH ALAM, 5 Feb: The special Search and Destroy Aedes programme will be implemented on a large scale on February 7 and 8 in the district of Petaling due to the increase in dengue cases that has become a serious concern in Selangor.
The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the programme involves cooperation from all members of the State Executive Council, Parliamentarians and Assemblymen, as well as the 12 local authorities across the state.
He said that the state government has also ordered 501 contractors for public cleaning appointed by local authorities to join together proactively for the success of this effort.
“Based on statistics until January 31, Selangor recorded 6,686 cases compared to the same period last year, which was 3,813 cases, with an increase of almost 70 percent.
“Meanwhile, for cases of death for the first month of 2015, there are 17 cases compared to only two cases last year.
“Of the nine districts, Petaling is the most critical in terms of number of cases and this situation is alarming and requires the state government to take proactive steps,” he said after chairing the Petaling District Cleaning Taskforce Meeting at the State Government Secretary’s office today.
Mohamed Azmin said that the cleaning work will be carried out at hotspots, low-cost flats, construction sites, and inspection will be done at Kampung Baru Cina, drains and all public and recreation parks.
He said that stern action will be taken against those found being Aedes breeding grounds such as termination of work notice, compounds or seizure of licences against developers if the same problems recur.
“In this district alone, we have 262 low-cost flats, 250 construction sites, 376 public parks, playgrounds and recreation centres, 505 mosques and suraus, 173 schools, 53 non-Islamic houses of worship and 33 traditional villages, Kampung Baru Cina and Indian communities.
“These are the areas that we have identified for prevention programmes, including cleaning work for a period of two days.
“After the clean-up is done, we will continue to monitor it to ensure the continuity of this effort to guarantee that the programme is effective and works,” he said.
At the same time, he said that a special committee will be formed to monitor the prevention programme at all local authority areas.
