SHAH ALAM, FEB 17: The State Government has ontroduced the ‘Selangor Smart Life’ programme with a budget of RM30 million to support maintenance cost for elevators at all low-cost flats in effort to help the residents manage their building.

Housing, Building Management and Urban Settlement Exco, Dato’ Iskandar Abdul Samad said, the aid would involve 405 elevators at 126 housing developments run by the Joint Management Bodies (JMB) and management agents.

He said, the State Government will pay directly to competent firms who will conduct the maintenance work on the elevators.

“The total cost allocated by the State Government is RM8 million for 12 months.

“A comprehensive maintenance contract for one elevator is estimated at RM1,600 a month or RM19,200 a year,” he said in a statement.

Previously, the State Government had repaired and will fully pay for 88 elevators which were not functioning, costing RM250,000 each and RM22 million in total.

In the 2017 Budget earlier, Dato’ Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmi Ali had also announced an allocation of RM55 million to beautify and repair flats in Selangor.

That includes RM30 million for elevator repairs and RM25 million for the State Repair Welfare Scheme or CERIA and PERMAI CERIA.

“With this programme, we hope to reduce part of the burden for maintenance, from the residents.

“It is evident now that the State Government cares for the citizen. Without a doubt, the citizens are fully confident in the current leadership to fully focus on their welfare,” he said.
