SHAH ALAM, OCT 4: The delay by the Environmental Department (JAS) in taking action on the Semenyih River water pollution incident has raised the question on the possibility of sabotage of the State Government’s administration.
Upset over the matter, Tourism, Environment, Green Technology and Consumer Affairs Exco Elizabeth Wong said that notification was given immediately to JAS as soon as the source of contamination was identified.
However, there was no follow-up action by the Federal Government agency to address the issue immediately.
“We are disappointed by JAS’s delay even though they were informed almost 12 hours earlier.
“They should have been more responsible and cooperate with the State Government even though they are under federal government.
“But we hope this will be a lesson for all, so that future reports on incidents like these are taken seriously for the benefit of the citizens,” she said.
Previously, Selangor Water Management Board (LUAS), Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) and Selangor Water were at the location since October 3, as soon as the monitoring team detected odour in the river.
At the same time, LUAS had lodge a police report at 2.45 am for the authorities to investigate on the matter.
However, JAS only started showing up at the location site on the morning of October 4 morning, to take water samples, after Dato’ Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali made a surprise visit onsite on October 4 morning.
