Serendah landslide caused by old mining activities

SHAH ALAM, DEC 10: Mining activities conducted more than 20 years ago were the factor that caused underground water flow which resulted in the recent landslide at Taman Idaman, Serendah.

Hulu Selangor District Officer Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim said, however, the water flow was successfully diverted using piling and roofpile methods by engineers.

He said repair work is expected to be completed in the next week and the temporary route has been completed and can be used by residents for daily activities.

At the same time, Mohd Fauzi denied that the water flow resulted from a project taking place in a residential area beside Taman Idaman.

Repair work at Taman Idaman was completed within four days, ahead of the seven days scheduled.

On November 26, at least six cars, two motorcycles and a van belonging to residents were buried in the landslide at Taman Idaman.

The 100 metre landslide, starting from the housing estate to the former mine also destroyed seven shop lots.
