Sivarasa: MOHA Do Not Exploit the Police

PETALING JAYA, 30 May: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) has been asked not to continue to exploit the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) for political purposes, urged Subang Member of Parliament, R Sivarasa.

He stressed that MOHA led by Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Sahid Hamid should give space and freedom to the police to concentrate on the actual scope of their duties.

“I do not blame the police because they are forced to comply with the instructions of their bosses to investigate matters such as the peaceful rally which is certainly not a crime.

“I am confident that the police actually do not want to waste time investigating and detaining people who assemble peacefully.

“MOHA, Zahid Hamidi in particular, should take responsibility for this abuse of power. The MOHA should allow PDRM to focus on works to curb the increasing incidences of crime which is bothering the people and not vice versa,” he said in front of the Tropicana Police Station.

Accompanied by lawyer, G. Sivamalar, he appeared for questioning under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, regarding his attendance at the Adam Adli solidarity assembly on 22 May.

On that night, about 18 people, including his personal assistant, Peter Chong, were arrested while gathering in front of the Jinjang Police Station lockup.

“I do not understand why I was called for questioning when all that happened on that night was witnessed by dozens of police officers and in fact, there are certainly video recordings of the event. The police is aware of this.

“I was asked questions which they knew the answer to. It is clear that the police have to waste time for political action,” he said regretfully.

He, however, said that he was notified whether he would be called up again for questioning or is he will be arrested after this.

The investigation started at 10.50am just now and ended about 55 minutes later.
