Skim Mesra Usia Emas Comes Up With New Ideas to Benefit Senior Citizens

SHAH ALAM, 24 Jan: The Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE) has come up with some new ideas for the state government’s consideration to ensure that senior citizens registered under it enjoy the benefits of the programme while alive and after death.

Its Chief Operating Officer, Kamsani Nasir, said that previously, members only received the death benevolent fund after they passed on, through two phases, RM1,000 for the first phase and the remainder RM1,500 for the second phase, which is 60 days after death.

“This is different with this new proposal where registered senior citizens will enjoy the same contribution when they are still alive and after they pass on,” he said to Selangor Kini recently.

Kamsani said that this proposal is seen as being more balanced, in addition to opening room for senior citizens to enjoy the state’s wealth while still alive.

He said that he believes that more senior citizens will come forward to register themselves to receive this balanced benefit.

“This is our restructuring effort to streamline operations. Our goal remains the same and it has not changed; which is to appreciate the roles and services of senior citizens.

“After this, we will discuss this proposal in greater detail with the Executive Councillor in charge of Welfare, Rodziah Ismail, to receive a clearer proposal before being taken to the State Executive Council Meeting (MMKN) to be refined,” he said.
