SKMM needs to define telco companies broadband KPI

SHAH ALAM, 29 Sept: The Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (SKMM) needs to set the key performance index (KPI) for all broadband telecommunications companies so that consumers enjoy the services that commensurate the price paid.

The Deputy President of the Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (Fomca), Mohd Yusof Abdul Rahman, said that although telecommunications companies are increasing, consumers still do not enjoy services that are commensurate, but it only creates competitive pricing alone.

He said that less developed countries such as Vietnam are able to provide much better service compared to this country.

“SKMM should be serious in ensuring that every company has a specific KPI for them to achieve and it has to be in line with the level of access that they have set.

“Mamy telcos claim that they are the ‘fastest in Malaysia’, but in some areas, there are still network problems,” he told Selangor Kini.

Although telecommunications companies are forced to spend a high cost to start broadband services, however Yusof is of the opinion that a monopoly culture does not contribute to an increase in price faced by the consumers today.

He stressed that the high charges of broadband fees to consumers may hamper the penetration of direct information, as proposed by the government.

“The situation also frustrates consumers who have to pay for services at a high price when telecommunication companies have taken a stand of being just there without upgrading the quality of achievement,” he said.
