SHAH ALAM, 11 NOV: The absence of former Dato’ Menteri Besar, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim at the Selangor State Assembly affected his chances of explaining the takeover issue of Syarikat Pengeluar Air Selangor (Splash).

Speaker Hannah Yeoh said that the Pelabuhan Klang Assemblyman should take the opportunity to do so when Dato’ Menteri Besar, Dato ‘Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali joined the debate in the winding up of the issue.

“When the State Government answered at the time, Abdul Khalid was not present.

“I cannot at any given moment, present an opportunity to an Assemblyman who is not present to give an explanation.

“That’s why Kota Anggerik Assemblyman (Dr Yaakob Sapari) was scolded (for not being present) by the Exco, and they do not practise favouritism. Pakatan Assemblymen were also scolded because the Exco had responded many times,” she said at a press conference in the lobby of the Selangor State Assembly on November 10.

She said that his office and the State Assembly did not receive any official application letter from Abdul Khalid on the matter as he had stated.

“I am made to understand that his officer had contacted a State Assembly official enquiring whether there was room for him to come clarify the matter, but this is not a formal letter.

“I did not receive any letter. Even if I did, I would not have allow that an opportunity to give an explanation be not taken, when the government answers in the winding up session,” she said.

In the Assembly sitting, Mohamed Azmin revealed that Abdul Khalid had made an offer of RM2.97 billion for the acquisition of Splash and it was agreed to by the company concessionaires.

He said that the said bids were different from the offer value of RM250 million, as stated by Port Klang Assemblyman.

However, the statement by Mohamed Azmin had been objected to by Abdul Khalid, who in return claimed that the State Government administration currently offers a price 10 times higher than RM250 million.
