SHAH ALAM, OCT 17: A dialogue session will be held between the relevant agencies and residents to discuss issues related to roads upgrading at Jalan Kebun and Johan Setia.

Sri Muda Assemblyman Shuhaimi Shafiei said road works covering 1.2 km will reduce traffic congestion faced by residents for the last several years.

However, he said the RM3.5 million project has been opposed by traders in the area.

“We received many objections from traders who are not satisfied with this road widening initiative, therefore we have called on relevant agencies, amongst them are the District Office, Roadworks Department and Department of Irrigation and Drainage to provide more clarification and resolve the issue,” he said.

He was speaking when met at the briefing on a project at the Dewan JKKK, Jalan Kebun on October 16.

It seems that 20 traders have built their premises on the road reserve.

As such, Shuhaimi wants them understand and cooperate to resolve the issue and arrive at a ‘win-win’ solution.

“We found that their premises have been built on the road reserve, but of course and definitely this upgrading work will involve Government’s land.

“So we hope that the traders understand and cooperate with us on this matter,” he said.

Meanwhile, Shuhaimi wants the work to be postponed until the dialogue session is conducted.

The project started last March and is expected to be complete by March 2018, involving converting the existing 2 lanes into 4 lanes.
