Tun M should participate in the GST protest on May 1

SHAH ALAM, 28 Apr: The former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, should participate in the protest on May 1 to object the implementation of the goods and services tax (GST).

The Exco for Health, Welfare, Women and Family, Dr Daroyah Alwi, said that the implementation of the GST burdens the people, including the increase in the price of medicine.

“The GST only burdens the people and we must unite to protect against its implementation.

“Hopefully, since Tun M has voiced his objections against the GST, he will gather with workers on Labour Day,” she said during a press statement today.

The GST is imposed on imported medicines and only 320 types are not taxed.

“It gives us the option of expensive medicines because most are still imported from abroad,” he said.

Since it was implemented on April 1, many of the country’s leaders, including Tun M, have expressed their objection against the implementation of the GST, which is seen as burdening the people.

Among them, Tun M questioned why the GST was implemented when the people, including government officers themselves, do not understand the kind of tax it is.
