UM invites Hannah Yeoh to share assembly reforms

SHAH ALAM, AUG 15: University of Malaya (UM) has invited the Selangor State Assembly Speaker, Hannah Yeoh to write an article in the first edition of Universiti of Malaya Law Review publication.

Yeoh wrote an article entitled Enhancing The Institutional Efficiency Of Parliament: Problem and Prospects, jointly with Tunku Abdul Rahman Constitutional Law Professor, Emeritus Prof Datuk Dr Shad Saleem Faruqi.

“Prof Shad has written a paper which was presented last May at the 2017 Parliamentary Speakers and National State Assembly Conference.

“The paper was intended to inform the public the right practice to reform lawmakers and how Parliament and the State Assembly to forge ahead.

“The paper also contains all changes in the state assembly that have been presented,” she said.

According to her, the article will be used as reference by lawyers and law students.

The first edition also features an article written by Federal Court Judge, Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram entitled ‘Lim Kit Siang’, ‘Order 53’ and ‘Future of Locus Standi in Public Interest Litiation’.

Management Editor, Erique Phang Li-Onn said, the publication is the idea of Academic Advisor, Prof Dr Johan Shamsuddin Sabaruddin himself.

It was made to understand that the publication was first published almost 60 years ago when UM joined Singapore.

“Previously, we only published online but with a hardcopy, it will be easier known internationally.

“We have a new board of directors to publish the manuscript on an annual basis,” he said.

It is sold to public at RM30 and RM50 for sale abroad.
