UMCEDEL: Anwar Expected to Win by a Large Majority in Kajang By-Election

SHAH ALAM, 3 Feb: The University Malaya’s Centre for Democracy and Elections (UMCEDEL) expects for the favourite candidate in the Kajang by-elections, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, to be able to obtain a larger majority compared to the 13th General Election (GE13).

The Director of UMCEDEL, Prof Datuk Mohammad Redzuan Othman, said that internal issues going on in PKR will not affect the votes for the PKR Leader.

He said that the presence of the leader as a candidate in the Kajang constituency is the solution to the turmoil.

“The issue of the party’s internal crisis has no impact on the voters in Kajang, in fact, he will win by a large majority.

“According to research since 1999, the election is something that the people are waiting for, there no question of dislike or otherwise,” he said, citing the UMCEDEL report.

The report also noted that PKR’s internal issues should be resolved immediately before the 14th General Election.

He said that this move will also involve Putrajaya, and it is wise to place Anwar in the Kajang constituency to solve the turmoil which may trigger a variety of problems in the state in the future.

Anwar was announced as the candidate for Kajang by the Chief Minister, tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, after its Assemblyman, Lim Chin Cheh, resigned.

In the last general election in May last year, PKR won the seat with a majority of 6,824 votes in a six-corner clash with BN, Berjasa and three independent candidates.
