BANGI, 7 Jan: In only four years, the Selangor Pakatan Rakyat (PR) Government managed to build five (Islamic) primary religious schools (SRA or Sekolah Rendah Agama) in Bangi while the Umno-BN Government took 50 years to build the same number of schools.

The newest school is a four-storey SRA which is under construction at Kampung Sungai Tangkas, using an allocation of RM2.5 million from the State Government.

The school is the fifth built after Pakatan Rakyat started administration in March 2008.

Bangi Assemblyman, Dr Sharie Abu Bakar said that the building of the new school is being built on two acres of land. The project was approved by the State Government in September 2011 and is expected to fully complete in December this year.

According to him, it is able to accommodate more students in Bangi to pursue a better and more organised Islamic education.

“The approval to build an SRA in Sungai Tangkas was very fast. After the Pakatan Rakyat Government started administration, the village head was asked to look for a site.

“The school consists of two four-storey buildings equipped with 30 classes and a canteen.

“It is able to accommodate the needs of residents in the area to send their children to religious schools. The State Government under Pakatan Rakyat is very concerned about the development of Islamic education.

“In the Bangi constituency alone, there are 10 schools. Five of them were built during the governance of Datuk Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim,” he said this afternoon during a speech in conjunction with the Mesra Rakyat Programme and the Thanksgiving Feast at Kampung Sungai Tangkas.

The programme was also joined by the Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, Serdang MP, Teo Nie Ching, Hulu Langat MP, Dr Che Rosli She Mat and the President of the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj), Datuk Hasan Nawawi Abdul Rahman.

Meanwhile, Abdul Khalid said that the construction of the SRA in the area will facilitate the local residents to send their children to school.

According to him, the State Government will continue to monitor the construction of the school to ensure that it is completed within the stipulated time.
