PETALING JAYA, 4 Mar: Malay medium newspaper Utusan Melayu Malaysia Bhd (Utusan) and Malaysian Television Systems Berhad (TV3) has been urged to retract unfounded claims related to the invasion at Lahad Datu in the next 24 hours.

This is in regards to the allegations in Utusan dated 2 March on the front page titled “Opposition Leader Connected With The Invasion” and on page 10, titled “Three Groups Are Mastermind”, which tried to connect Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim with the Lahad Datu events.

The Utusan report was then reported again by TV3 in the Buletin Utama (Main Bulletin) broadcast on March 2.

Lawyer, N Surendran said that if Utusan and TV3 gives no response and apologise, his quarters will file a suite for RM100 million respectively against them.

“This is baseless statement, slanderous and evil.

“We have sent a letter to Utusan to demand for them to retract their allegations and to state a public apology,” said Surendran in a press conference at the PKR headquarters.

“We ask for the unfounded allegations to be withdrawn immediately and for TV3 to also apologise and pay damages to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,” he stressed.

He said that Anwar Ibrahim views the accusations seriously because it was an evil personal attack and an attempt to produce false facts about the invasion which happened at Lahad Datu.

“This is very serious because it involves national security for issuing the false statements on the issue,” said Surendran.

Also present at the press conference was lawyer Latheefa Koya.
