Vaisakhi Celebration on April 25 to improve social harmony

SHAH ALAM, 24 Apr: The Vaisakhi Celebration organised by the Selangor government to be held on April 25 (Saturday) at the East Field, Petaling Jaya, is to improve racial harmony.

The Exco for Caring Government, V Ganabatirau, said that the Sikh celebration is to appreciate the role of the minority community, in addition to improving the people’s understanding about various cultures and celebrations.

“The state government has never neglected this minority community, in fact such celebration is organised each year to foster the spirit of unity among the people.

“Through this celebration, we are more exposed to and understand each other,” he said during a press conference at his office yesterday.

Jointly organised by the Coalition of Malaysian Sikh Organisations, the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) and the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), this programme is scheduled to take place from 4 pm to 10 pm.

The celebration will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali.

The public is invited to join the celebration where various cultural events are planned.

The Vaisakhi celebration is celebrated by the Sikh community on April 14 each year worldwide.

Vaisakhi is a major festival in the Sikh calendar to commemorate the birth of the Khalsa.

It is the beginning of its history and is significant in the formation of the Sikh community’s identity and code of life.
