SHAH ALAM, 25 Dec: Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in his message, in conjunction with Christmas, said that the Christian community plays an important role in the multi-racial and multi-religious communities in this country.

He said this in a Christmas address to the Christian community in the country.

He said that the relationship among the Christian community and the government should be built on trust and cooperation, and their fundamental freedoms, as enshrined in the Constitution, must be respected and protected.

“This matter is essential for Malaysia to move forward together for the sake of harmony and well-being. The country cannot look great with a society that is not united.

“In conjunction with this festive season, I would like to repeat that joy, stability and prosperity of all the people in Malaysia should be the benchmark of the country’s strength and ability to meet challenges ahead. Let us unite under the banner of peace, freedom, reformation and justice for all,” quoted the statement.

Anwar also reminded the people to be grateful for the yielded pleasures and to not forget the less fortunate.

“I, together with my friends in Pakatan Rakyat, have worked hard for years to ensure our commitment, that Malaysia belongs to all Malaysians. In that spirit, we would like to once again say Merry Christmas to the whole Christian community in Malaysia,” he said.
