SHAH ALAM, 1 Dec: In addition to winning the main award for Clean Zone, Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) also bagged a majority of other awards in the Clean Zone appreciation night here, today.
MBSA was selected from 12 local authorities to receive the major award – ‘Award of Appreciation’ and ‘Selangor Clean Zones 2012 Award’.
MBSA also won awards in five out of the eight categories which include the Clean Zone Champion Award for City Council Group and Best Model Management Practice.
MBSA also won in the category of Selangor Local Authorities Monitoring of Cleanliness Criteria, Selangor Local Authorities Landscape Maintenance Criteria and the Selangor Local Authorities Public Facilities Maintenance Criteria.
Shah Alam Mayor Datuk Mohd Jaafar Mohd Atan described the victory as being the result of sincerity, commitment and responsibility from all parties involved in the MBSA Clean Zones campaign.
He credited the hard work of all officers, employees of MBSA, council members and the people of Shah Alam in cooperating to maintain cleanliness.
“Those three are the main factors of our success today and I, as the Mayor, am only the planner and a source of encouragement to them.”
“But they worked hard to achieve this. The success is their. My highest congratulations to them all,” he told TV Selangor.
The award giving ceremony was held at the Shah Alam Convention Centre today and was inaugurated by the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
Besides MBSA, Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) won the Municipal Council award and Hulu Selangor District Council (MDHS) won the District Council award.
Meanwhile, the Klang Municipal Council won the Community Involvement category, Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (Documentation management), Subang Jaya Municipal Council (Maintaining Old Clean Zones) and Sabak Bernam District Council (Local Complaints Management).
The judging was done by a committee headed by the Dean of the University of Selangor (Unisel),Datuk Prof Dr Salleh Mohd Fuad.
In his opening address, Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said that the people can be educated to take care of the environment by ensuring that the cleanliness of the area is increased.
“Singaporeans take good care of their country, however their attitude is lost when they come into Johor.
“This is because they feel that it’s alright to litter in Johor because they see Johor as being less clean as compared to their country.
“It is the same here. If someone enters a clean and organised shopping complex, they are hesitant to litter.
“However, when they enter a messy and dirty complex, they don’t mind littering everywhere,” Abdul Khalid said.
