KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 12: PKR De Facto Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim warned Umno-BN that all the extensive lies designed to prevent the advancement of Pakatan Rakyat can no longer be prevented.
He said that the assembly today is among the messages of the people from all walks of life who are protesting openly to remove the current government.
He said that although Umno-BN will be using the entire government machinery to win in the upcoming general elections, the power of the people will be the deciding factor.
Anwar firmly said that the new government under Pakatan Rakyat (PR) that will rise should they win in the GE-13 is committed to be a government that is clean, transparent and hardworking in fighting corruption and abuse of power.
“What will be raised by the people is not a mediocre government but it is the people’s government.
“We, the leaders of Pakatan Rakyat, salute all who have risen today,” said Anwar.
Anwar in his speech also chanted ‘Merdeka Rakyat’ (People’s Independence) seven times to symbolise the liberation of the people from the clutches of the BN government’s tyranny.
He said that it was here, in Merdeka Stadium, the Father of Independence, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj’s chants echoed on 31 August 1957.
“Despite the hard planned dishonesty, no matter how powerful the slander and propaganda of BN, it will not prevent the rise of the people in Malaysia,” said Anwar.
Meanwhile, according to the People’s Uprising Assembly Committee Member, Hishamuddin Rais who was met, an estimate of around 500,000 people were present to show support at Merdeka Stadium and its surrounding areas.
The assembly that ended at 5 this evening was carried out calmly and peacefully without any unwanted incidents.
