SHAH ALAM, 29 May: Political lecturer, Assoc Prof Dr Mohammad Agus Yusoff urged the government to resolve the 505 Assembly problem properly without having to resort to any form or intimidation of violence.

This is because the majority of the people are aware of their responsibilities and the right to assembly peacefully in accordance with Article 10(1)(b1) of the Federal Constitution.

He commented on his Facebook page that the article states that it is the people’s right to peacefully assemble: All citizens have the right to assemble peacefully and without weapons.

“For the government, I hope that the 505 Assembly issue will be handled well. Hopefully there would be no use of force, unnecessary arrests and intimidation of the people.

“People are aware of the responsibilities and rights. Give them the opportunity to express themselves in the space allowed by the country’s democratic system and laws,” he said.

The media reported that six other Pakatan Rakyat leaders have been indicted for organising the rally without informing the matter to the respective District Police Chief as stated in the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

To solve the matter, he suggested for the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Opposition Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to hold a dialogue to resolve the crisis.

He further wrote, regarding the electoral system in this country being managed by the Election Commission (EC) in accordance with the constitution.

So if there are alleged grievances in the election, the EC should be responsible to answer to it.

He says that the democracy in this country cannot be fertile on its own and requires for the opposition and the government to both understand and celebrate it.
