PETALING JAYA, 29 May: The trial of the case of Seri Setia Assemblyman, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad regarding the #Blackout505 peaceful assembly at the Kelana Jaya Stadium on 8 May shifted to 27 August.

This was set by the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court Judge, Hayatul Akmal Abdul Aziz.

Hayatul Ahmad set the date after hearing submissions from both parties, the prosecutor and the defense counsel.

The prosecution was carried out by the Deputy Public Prosecutor, Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin while the counsel representing Nik Nazmi consisted of Syahredzan Johan and Afiq Md Nor,

Previously, the case was set to be heard by the Judge, Rozina Ayob at the same court on 4 June where Nik Nazmi pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Hayatul Akmal took over the case from Rozina because Rozina and Nik Nazmi have family relations.

Before the case was handled by Hayatul Akmal, Rozina explained that she was informed by the father regarding the matter after Nik Nazmi’s case was mentioned for the first time on 17 May.

Accordingly, to be fair, she said that both prosecutors and the defense counsel were called to be informed that the case has been transferred to another judge.

Outside the court, Nik Nazmi said that his counsel will submit an appeal to the High Court within one to two weeks for the cancellation of the case.

“My counsel, Syahredzan, Afiq and Eric Paulesen will file this case in the High Court to challenge the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

“We will challenge this case and at the same time face it on 26 August,” he said.
