SHAH ALAM, June 3: Non-governmental organisation (NGO) Aqsa Syarif Berhad has launched a charity fundraising to be donated to Palestinians in preparation for the Ramadan celebrations in July.

Aqsa Syarif Berhad Deputy Chairman, Dr Fauziah Mohd Hasan said that the donation will be given in the form of food and daily necessities with a value of RM150 per family.

According to her, the funds will be targeted to women and single mothers who are the backbone of the family so that they can carry out proper fasting.

“Hopefully, this contribution can ease their burden and help the people there even though the amount is not great,” she said in conjunction with the Women March for Palestinian Women and Children at the Bazarena site of the Malawati Stadium.

She also welcomed all people to make donations in addition to participating in the signing of a petition in protest against the violence of the Israeli Zionist regime.

She said that the petition will be submitted to the United Nations Human Rights Chapter and the Israeli Government to put pressure on them.

Meanwhile, the Welfare and Women’s Affairs Exco, Rodziah Ismail welcomed the efforts of Aqsa Syarif in committing towards the defense of Palestinian women who are mostly still in Israeli prisons.

She explained that the establishment of the Women’s Empowerment Centre (PWB) launched by the Selangor State Government has also been an inspiration for Palestinian leaders to build two community centres in the country specifically for the distribution of free food for the people.

“During a visit by Palestinian leaders last year, they have raised a number of PWB programmes to be carried out there specifically for the preparation of welfare food.

“This project requires some funding, therefore I would urge all the people of Selangor to contribute a little so that this project can be initiated in conjunction with the coming of the Ramadan,” she said.

In addition to launching the charity fund, the organisation will also hold a flashmob dance with around 30 participants at the bazaar site as a symbol of protest against Israeli aggression.
