AMPANG, June 23: Cooperation should be intensified among components of Pakatan Rakyat (PR) to correct the Malay community’s perception that Umno is the only protector and defender of the community.

PAS Deputy President, Mohammad Sabu said that careful planning should be carried out starting from now to avoid issues related to the Malay community being played again in the 14th General Election (GE-14).

Therefore, he said that DAP needs to help explain to the Malay community who are still hesitant to give support to Pakatan.

“For the next five-year plan, we have to seriously look into receiving help from all races, particularly for DAP.

“DAP wins big and it is needed to be seriously looked at on how to remove perception that only Umno is the saviour of Malays,” he said.

He said this today while giving a speech at the Pakatan Rakyat Convention at the De Palma Inn Hotel here in Ampang.

Better known as Mat Sabu, Mohammad Sabu said that Pakatan leaders which consists of PAS, PKR and DAP must be more careful when commenting on sensitive issues to avoid being exploited by Umno-BN.

“Whether aware or unaware, these matters, if not given attention, would help Umno stay in power,” he added.

Previously, a number of sensitive issues such as the Allah terminology and the negative perception of DAP were often being manipulated by Umno-BN to attract Malay voters during the recent GE-13.
