Datuk Masbun Sidek Awarded as a 2012 Selangor Sports Personality

SHAH ALAM, June 6: Former national badminton player and coach, Datuk Misbun Sidek has been awarded the 2012 Selangor Sports Personality award to honour his contribution in developing sports in this country.

When met, Misbun said that he hopes for the development of badminton in this country to continue to be developed in terms of infrastructure to provide.

“Thank you for this award 22 years now in 2013 after receiving the award for Sportsman of Selangor in 1981. This is a very meaningful appreciation for all I have contributed over the years,” said Misbun.

He said that the talent that has been tapped all this while at the grassroots level has been a lot, however at a certain level, they became stuck.

“So we need to look into why this blockage happens. I hope that there will be changes in this matter,” he said when met after receiving the 2012 Selangor Sports Personality Award at the Concord Hotel yesterday.

The award was presented by the Royal Selangor Tengku Panglima, YAM Tengku Sulaiman Shah Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj, representing DYMM the Sultan of Selangor.

Also present was the Youth and Sports Exco, Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi.

He added that the renewal of the badminton development system is important to be given attention because if the system is correct, the process will go well.

Receiving the same award was former handball athlete, Jacob Matthew.
