PUCHONG June 9: Dangerous diseases such as dengue can be overcome if the public is aware of the importance of hygiene in their residential areas.

Aware of this responsibility, the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) has organised a Cleanliness Zone 2 Community Carnival and Gotong Royong (Communal Work) at Pangsa Perdana, Taman Puchong Perdana to foster the importance of hygiene among the residents.

MPSJ Community Development Department Director, Muhammad Zaki Yusoff said that this is the responsibility of MPSJ to create awareness and provide encouragement to the residents in this flat area so that they would not continue to ignore the cleanliness of this area.

“We want to change the perception of the residents that the responsibility of caring for the cleanliness is not an individual responsibility but all the residents should be responsible to always keep the cleanliness, especially those living in flats,” he said.

According to Muhammad Zaki, Puchong Perdana was chosen by MPSJ as the Cleanliness Zone 2 area for this year to be jointly contested with the Local Authorities (PBT) in Selangor.

Also present during the launch of this campaign was the Seri Serdang Assemblyman, Noor Hanim Ismail and MPSJ Council Member, Sapiyan Mohd Din.

This one-day programme also provided MPSJ complaint and suggestion counters, various competitions such as colouring and tele-matches for all ages.

In the meantime, Noor Hanim said that the residents of Pangsa Perdana hope to continue this Gotong Royong in the future so that the clean environment can be continuously enjoyed.

“We hope that the residents would not just rely on MPSJ to organise campaigns such as this, but move on community initiatives to cooperate in keeping the cleanliness,” he said.

Meanwhile, residents’ representative, Zulfadli Alias, 45, said that this collaborative work can help to foster the spirit of neighbourliness with other residents and is healthy for the body too.

“This weekend’s activities are important to the residents to continue to take care of the cleanliness and we are able to chat with our neighbours as well as strengthen mutual relations,” he said.
