PETALING JAYA, June 10: In addition to the election petition, Pakatan Rakyat (PR) has presented a separate petition for Bagan Datok Parliament with allegations that Umno-BN candidate, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi overshot the RM200,000 expense limit allowed for an election.

The petition includes 35 election petitions involving Parliamentary and State Legislative Assembly (DUN) areas nationwide which will be filed by PR starting this Wednesday.

PKR Strategy Director, Rafizi Ramli claimed to have evidence in the form of a video footage showing how Ahmad Zahid, who is now the Minister of Home Affairs, exceeded the expense limit in his election campaign.

He claimed that the video can also be watched via the internet.

“Zahid Hamidi made a general statement, which was recorded on video, of him admitting that he gave RM100 and a 5 kilogram (kg) bag of rice, if not mistaken, to 24,000 people in Bagan Datok.

“RM100 including 5kg of rice estimated at RM1 to 24,000 would mean that the total amount is approximately more than RM2 million. The limit for election expenses is only RM200,000,” he said in a press conference here today.

The Pandan Member of Parliament said that with the case, PR has decided to file two petitions for the said parliamentary constituency.

According to him, 35 election petitions filed by PR are for 25 Parliamentary seats and 10 DUN seats with PKR (19 Parliament and one DUN), PAS (four Parliaments and nine DUN) and DAP (two Parliament).

Simultaneously with the petition, PR will also file legal action against the Election Committee (EC) as well as the connection with the matter in three weeks.

“First, a lawsuit against the EC Chairman and the Deputy Chairman, as well as EC members for the failure of the indelible ink.

“Secondly, an election petition to the court to review the electoral roll contaminated by phantom voters in Sabah based on the statement made so far by the Royal Commission and PKR internal investigations,” he said.

He said that further legal action will be taken to declare the amendment to Section 9A which prevents the validity of the electoral roll to be challenged in court which is contrary to the constitution.

He said that the PKR team which will take the action is led by constitutional expert, Professor Dr Abdul Aziz Bari.
