SHAH ALAM, June 8: The development of the Shah Alam Hospital project which has been delayed for a year and would cost more than half a billion to complete, will be known before the Parliamentary session begins on 24 June.
Shah Alam Member of Parliament, Khalid Abdul Samad expects that he will visit the project site in Section 7 after receiving approval from the Public Works Department (PWD).
“We have sent letters and faxes in February according to the given address and the (fax) number given by the main contractor (Gadang Engineering (M) Sdn Bhd), and we have received confirmation that it has reached them.
“Anyway, I welcome offers by the central PWD and hope that this visit can be arranged before the Parliamentary session is held in about two weeks.
“I am sure that is enough time for PWD to arrange a tour as offered,” explained the Selangor PAS Deputy Commissioner when contacted.
Yesterday, the Public Works Department (PWD) of Malaysia issued a statement that they have not received any application related to the site visitation which is to be made by Khalid, however, it is informed that they are ready to arrange the visit.
On Wednesday, Khalid claimed to still have been waiting for a response from the central PWD regarding his application in February to visit the project site.
He said that the visitation has to be done to know the development of the project which has been delayed for several years.
In December last year, the Public Works Minister at the time, Datuk Seri Shaziman Abu Mansor claimed that the structural works of the hospital is 98 percent completed but they still have to wait for the completion of mechanical and electrical works.
Shaziman said that the work is expected to be competed in October 2013 and the hospital will provide 300 beds for the use of residents of Shah Alam and Subang.
Previously, hundreds of thousands of residents from Shah Alam and Subang had to head to the Tuanku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang which is already crowded with citizens from Klang and Banting.
The construction of the Shah Alam Hospital initially cost RM482.6 million and was expected to be completed in April last year.
However, due to changes in contractors, the hospital is only expected to be completed in October this year with a total cost of RM550.7 million.
The amount includes compensation of RM139.9 million to be paid to the old contractor.
