SHAH ALAM, June 19: The water disruption expected to occur on Thursday involving 70000 consumers in the Klang Valley managed to be resolved earlier, said Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
According to Abdul Khalid, the Sluice Valve replacement at the Sungai Selangor Phase 1 (SSP1) Water Treatment Plant by the Syarikat Pengeluar Air Sungai Selangor (Splash) was fully completed at four in the evening yesterday and was operating normally on the same day by supplying 750 million litres a day.
He said that his department was notified that the water supply fully recovered this morning except for higher grounds which take some time because of the low pressure.
“Splash submitted an application to carry out valve replacement works which required for the plant to be partially stopped for eight hours yesterday (June 18).
“The scheduled replacement caused supply disruptions at the Matang Pagar Balancing Reservoir which provides water supply to Petaling and Kuala Lumpur,” he said in a press statement after chairing the Stat Executive Council meeting here at the Selangor Secretariat Building.
Previously, the Selangor Water Supply Company (Syabas) informed that several areas involving 70,000 consumers in the Klang Valley and Hulu Selangor will experience water supply disruptions on Thursday (June 20) due to valve replacement works at the SSP1.
Comminting further on the matter, Abdul Khalid said that the State Government wants Syabas to act more pro-actively and effectively as well as to resolve the pipe leaking problem immediately, and to closely monitor the plant and pump houses to prevent damage.
“We are aware of the people’s complaints regarding the frequent water disruptions recently that affect the lives of consumers in the Klang Valley, so we want Syabas to act immediately,” he said
In the meantime, the Selangor Water Management Atuhority (LUAS) confirmed that the water levels in all reservoirs in the country are in ti-top condition despite the on-going hot weather.
“Currently, the water supply can be handled and is not worrisome. However, consumers are advised to use water sparingly as a precautionary measure,” he said.
