KUALA SELANGOR July 30: The expansion of the Kampung Parit Mahang Mosque worth RM5.4 million cheered the village community because now they can worship and conduct religious activities comfortably.

The project which was completed on 22 September 2009 allowed for the mosque to accommodate a congregation of 2,000 at a given time.

“Indeed, the departure of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, is very meaningful to us, especially the residents of this village.

“Because not only could break fast with HRH, but it was more meaningful when the mosque which was beautifully decorated was officiated by HRH.

“HRH’s departure to the mosque was an indirect reflection of HRH’s attentiveness towards the development and management of Islamic affairs in this beloved state,” said the Director of the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), Datuk Marzuki Hussin.

He said this in a speech at the Opening Ceremony of the Mosque in conjunction with the Iftar with DYMM the Sultan of Selangor and the Aidilfitri Contributions here at Kampung Parit Mahang yesterday.

Before the officiating of the mosque, the Sultan of Selangor consented to present Aidilfitri contributions provided by the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) to 250 poor and needy asnaf, converts (100 people) and orphans (158 children) for the district of Kuala Selangor.

Also present was the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

The village mosque was built in the 1960s and jointly managed by the villagers for prayers, Friday prayers and religious activities.

Since 1970, the village experienced an increase in population and construction of housing estates in the vicinity resulting in the mosque not being able to accommodate the needs of the congregation.

The State Government and JAIS approved the mosque expansion project on 28 January 2008.
