SHAH ALAM, July 13: Exco for plantation worker’s welfare, poverty eradication and the management of a caring government, V Ganabatirau expects to meet with the residents of Taman Permata, Dengkil, to resolve the issues regarding the serious fractures to their houses.
According Ganabatirau, during the meeting with the residents, he will discuss on the offer to repair the cracks to the apartments concerned while waiting for the Federal Government to build their new homes.
He said that the alternative will be carried out after getting advice from professional bodies and the Public Works Institute of Malaysia (IKRAM).
“We are ready to repair the cracks while waiting for the Federal Government to build the terraced houses as previously promised,” he said when met at his office today.
The residents of the low-cost apartment consist of 400 temporary residents who were former plantation workers at the Perang Besar Plantation, Medingly, Galloway and Sedgeley.
They were moved 14 years ago to make way for the Putrajaya development project and was promised single-story terraced houses.
However, the Federal Government failed to keep its promise to build the housing and the residents were only given temporary housing which are the low-cost apartments.
Meanwhile, at this point, it has been 31 days since some of the residents have been ‘temporarily housing’ in camps provided by the Sepang Municipal Council (MPSp) after being shook-up by strong tremors.
Commenting further on the solution to the crisis, he said that the State Government will allocate 20 acres of land to the Urban Well-being, Housing and Local Government Ministry for the construction of the houses as promised before.
“Previously, we allocated 18 acres of land, but the Ministry rejected the offer because they said that it was not enough to build 400 single-storey terraced houses in their letter dated 7 July.
“Therefore, we decided to give a larger piece of land to the ministry and I hope that the ministry is serious in developing the houses.
“The State Government is serious and committed to address issues such as this, we are ready to help solve the residents’ problem,” he said.
It is understood that the housing development project is belong implemented late because the former Sepang Member of Parliament, Dr Mohd Zin Mohamed insisted in asking for 100 acres of land from the State Government.
