Granting of Festive ‘Jom Shopping’ Coupons will be Expanded

KLANG July 27: The giving of Shopping Coupons for the Jom Shopping (Let’s Go Shopping) Programme in conjunction with festive celebrations will be expanded to include the Deepavali and Chinese New Year celebrations.

Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said, for the Jom Shopping programme for the Aidilfitri Celebration, each constituency has been allocated 500 shopping coupons which will be given to families earning below RM1,500.

He said this during the Jom Shopping Programme held here at the Econsave Supermarket.

In the programme, 300 families earning below RM1,500 were selected to receive the Jom Shopping coupons worth RM100.

Prior to this, the State Government announced that a total of 28,000 underprivileged people of Selangor will receive the RM100 shopping coupon under the Jom Shopping Programme in preparation to celebrate the Hari Raya Aidilfitri (Eid al-Fitr).

For the programme, the State Government allocated RM2.8 million for the success of the programme.

Meanwhile, in a press conference, Abdul Khalid explained that there are several projects to improve traffic flow in the Klang district.

“For the long term, we will improve traffic flow better through the construction of the third Klang bridge so that it is not only concentrated in urban areas.

“We will also request for construction to be accelerated for the road leading to Pulau Indah, which will be soon completed, and also for the Port Klang and the West Port Klang roads,” said Abdul Khalid.

He said several recommendations have been made by consultants who are still discussing for the local authorities to improve local transport.

It includes the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and buses which are more efficient to deal with traffic congestion.

“To overcome the problem of flooding, we are maintaining drains and ditches so that when there are heavy rains, flooding can be avoided,” he said.
