PETALING JAYA, July 20: The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) will be conducting some construction and upgrading to some roads under the city’s jurisdiction.

This includes the construction of an alternative road in Taman Kelana Idaman, which is the road to the LRT station No.2 car park at Ara Damansara, Petaling Jaya.

Also involved is the upgrading of Jalan Harapan 17/17 from Bulatan University and Jalan Semangat to Jalan Damansara.

MBPJ Engineering Director, Ismail Shafie said, for the project in Taman Kelana, a new 400 metre road will be built from the FAS tunnel to reduce congestion in the area.

This means that the residents in PJU 1A/4F have to head to Jalan PJU 1A/4C to use the FAS tunnel to cross the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE).

In addition, for the area around Jalan Universiti, the first phase of the road upgrades was completed in September 2011.

“Some of the works include upgrading the existing roundabout to a traffic light junction and upgrading T junctions to a traffic light intersection,” said Ismail.

While for the second phase, roads will be widened to three two-way lanes and upgrades to the entry-exit junction to the Sprint Expressway will be upgraded.

“The contractor awarded will start construction and this project is expected to be fully completed in July 2014,” he added.

He said this at a press conference to inform on the road constructions here at the MBPJ Operations Room.

Also present was the Mayor of Petaling Jaya, Datin Paduka Alinah Ahmad and the Bukit Gasing Assemblyman, Rajiv Rishyakaran.
