SHAH ALAM, July 22: The Hulu Selangor District Council (MDHS) has ordered the developer of the Tamu Hill Phase 2 Batang Kali housing area to prepare a surau site for the use of the Muslim community in the area.

The Assistant Information Officer of MDHS, Junainah Abdullah said that the Tamu Hill Park Phase 2 ad hoc Committee previously to build a surau at the area was rejected.

She said that MDHS could not approve the application to build a surau at the clearing in the park because the Town and Country Planning Act 1976 does not allow for buildings to be built on public and recreational areas.

“However, the OSC Committee has ordered that developer, Ligamas Sdn Bhd, to ready a site for a surau that is 0.56 acres immediately.

“The site will be submitted to the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) for the construction of the surau,” she said in a statement to TVSelangor reporters.

Junainah hopes that the residents in the housing area can allow for time and to be patient for the problem to be solved.

In the meantime, the residents association revealed that they have already obtained a letter of support from the Hulu Selangor District Islamic Religious Office dated 18 March 2009 for the construction of the surau.

Support was also given by the Bandar Utama Batang Kali Mosque in a letter dated 21 March 2009.

It was previously reported that about 1,200 residents in the neighborhood had to huddle in a single-storey terrace house to perform prayers because the local authorities has yet to approve a surau site for them.
