SHAH ALAM, July 31: The Selangor Government’s decision to extend the Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor (MES) scheme to those earning RM3,000 and below to help ease the burden of the lower-middle class which is increasingly being pressed by the rising cost of living.
According to a private legal officer, Haiza Hamid, 34, the effort is a wise move for the Selangor Government to take care of the people’s welfare.
“This is a good effort because although the RM3,000 figure looks great, with the cost of living on the rise, the assistance would certainly help ease the burden of the people.
“At least we will have extra money for emergencies such as children becoming sick in the middle of the night and needs to go to the clinic as well as other urgent matters outside expectations,” he said.
For executive officer, Amir Hamzah Amha, 35, the effort is a proactive measure which should be praised and is an effort to implement the Pakatan Rakyat Manifesto.
“It is generally known that the cost of living now does not only burden the poor, in fact the middle class also feel the pain.
“This move will ensure that the wealth of the State is felt by more people. Congratulations to the Selangor PR and weep up the welfare agenda irrespective of race and religion,” he said in a survey by journalist from TVSelangor/Selangorkini.
Previously, the Executive Councillor in charge of Welfare, Rodziah Ismail said that families earning RM3,000 and below will start to enjoy MES schemes such as assistance for nurseries, kindergarten and gifts for children who gain entrance to universities.
The police to extend the eligibility to receive MES aid is to ensure that no groups are left out of the economic prosperity of Selangor.
At this point, most of the MES programmes are only for families with a household income of RM1,500 and below.
Shahril Mutel, 30, a vendor, said that the rising cost of goods and services have made the RM3,000 salary decrease in value compared to before.
